Outlander season 3 may have only just finished, but fans want to know when Droughtlander will end.

When will Droughtlander end? That’s all many fans want to know. Outlander season 4 is currently filming, but when can we expect to see the premiere?

So for, all we officially know is that the season 4 premiere will air sometime in 2018. Of course, there are 12 months of the year. Will we have an extra long Droughtlander like we did between seasons 2 and 3?

The great news is we shouldn’t. The benefit of Starz, Sony, and the showrunners confirming two seasons at a time was to continue filming the series straight after season 3 wrapped. Outlander is an expensive show and takes a long time to film. It needs to be finished and fully ready to air before the season starts since there are only 13 episodes per season (although 16 in season 1). Season 4 needs to be finished before the premiere airs.

Possibly September 2018

Right now, many people expect Droughtlander to end in Sept. 2018. The filming is expected to end in June 2018, which will give two months of post-production of the last couple of episodes (the previous episodes may have been finished before filming finishes).

This would work with the season 3 timeline. The filming ended in June 2017 and the premiere aired Sept. 10, 2017.

Following Drums of Autumn

The fourth season will follow the fourth book, “Drums of Autumn.” Season 3 left Jamie and Claire in Georgia, but they will head to North Carolina if the show sticks to that part of the novels. Of course changes are expected but something as big as that shouldn’t be affected.

From there, it will be time for the Frasers to make a home. They will also need to be reunited with the survivors of (presumably) the Artemis. We already have confirmation Lauren Lyle and Cesar Dumboy are returning, which means Marsali and Fergus survive. John Bell, who plays Young Ian, is also expected to have survive the wreck. It’s unclear just who else will have made it through.

Many fans hope that Murtagh will return as a character in Outlander season 4. This will be a big change from the books, as Murtagh was killed at the Battle of Culloden in “Voyager.”
