6 best Claire moments in Outlander season 3, episode 10
There were some beautiful and sad moments for Claire in Heaven & Earth. Here are the best from the Outlander episode.
It can sometimes be extremely hard to pick the best moments for Claire. That’s sometimes because she can be extremely annoying in her unwavering view of superstitions and beliefs in the 18th century. However, in this case it’s because there were so many excellent moments. “Heaven & Earth” finally helped to bring the maternal, war nurse personality in Claire out that Outlander has missed for most of season 3.
With that in mind, here’s a look at her best moments from episode 10, “Heaven & Earth.”
#1. Taking Elias Pound under her wing
There was a worry that Claire would forget that she was in the 18th century when trying to treat the sick. She chastised Elias for licking the grog off his hands, as if he should have known better. However, she caught herself and realized that he was just learning. The best thing about Elias was that he was open to learning.

Claire took him under her wing throughout the episode. She had a maternal personality towards him throughout the episode, which was clearly just what he needed. The moment this was clear when she told Elias how impressive he was and he gave her that cute little smile.
#2. Asking the purser how many men he would like her to save
Elias gave Claire the idea to get grog from the purser to distill into pure alcohol. It would be much better to stop the spread of the infection. However, it would mean talking to the purser as the men would need to go on half rations of their daily drink.
While the purser wasn’t too happy with the decision, he didn’t put up much of a fight. All he wanted to know was the amount of grog Claire would need. Her response was priceless and exactly the type of answer Claire would give.
#3. Her foul mouth at Mr. Johansson’s actions
When the grog was taken away, Annekje Johansson’s husband decided to drink the pure alcohol. He gave himself alcohol poisoning, which made Claire furious. It’s been a long time, but her foul mouth finally came out. What’s also been a long time is seeing how men around her react to hearing the words from her mouth.
All commented on how they’d never heard a gentlewoman say some of the things she did. It brought out some of the fun of Outlander season 1 back to the episode.
#4. Finding a friendship with Annekje
One thing that’s missing for Claire is a female friend. In fact, it seems hard for her to make friends at all. She has the odd person, but that’s about it. Yet she is a caring and kind individual most of the time.
“Heaven & Earth” finally opened the opportunity for a female friend. Annekje was so thankful for Claire saving her husband that she wanted to pay that debt. But it was more than just a debt. Annekje risked her own reputation and freedom by helping Claire escape on the island. It will be interesting if Annekje is brought back again and whether she was reprimanded in any way for helping Claire jump overboard.
#5. Jesus H. Roosevelt Christ
It’s been a long time since Claire has uttered those words. There was maybe one or two moments of it in Outlander season 3 alone, but it’s such an important part of her character. The first two seasons were full of it.
Finally, Claire swore in her unique way again. This time it was for a very good reason. She was about to jump overboard into what would likely be freezing cold waters. There was no reason for her to believe that she would get through this unscathed and she was literally taking a leap of faith to save her husband.

#6. Claire’s goodbye to Elias
In the end, saving the sailors from typhoid was bittersweet. The young man she was so proud of had succumbed to the disease. She only realized at the last minute, kicking herself for missing all those signs that he was sick.
It was that final goodbye that was so brilliant in the episode. There were definitely tears and sad smiles. Not only did her war nurse personality come out (by allowing Elias to believe she was his mother) but the maternal side came out once more at the very end. As she said her goodbye, she gave him his rabbit’s foot back and told his body just how proud his mom would be. It was more of her telling him just how proud she was of him.
