Outlander Easter eggs are everywhere, but there’s one that you wouldn’t have noticed until this week, thanks to Matthew B. Roberts explaining it.
Have you ever watched the special featurettes at the end of each episode of Outlander? This week, Matthew B. Roberts, Ronald D. Moore, and Toni Graphia shared more about creating the world of the episode. Roberts in particularly pointed out a theme that many fans will have overlooked.
The rabbit’s foot looked like a cute superstition, continuing on from the previous week’s look at how sailors had their superstitions and beliefs. However, it was much bigger than that. There has been a running focus on rabbits throughout Season 3.

During the premiere, a rabbit hopped its way along the battlefield, before Claire/Rupert showed up to help Jamie. Then Claire gave baby Brianna a rabbit when putting her in her playpen in 1950s Boston. Now the rabbit’s foot has shown up in the episode. This will be a nod to the “Voyager” fans, since Brianna loves rabbits.
The after-episode special only takes up a few minutes but is an excellent way to learn more about the creation of the episode. This is the way to find out how scenes were filmed and why certain elements were so important for the executive producers. While this is a show created for book lovers, it’s also created for non-book lovers and the showrunners themselves, and small details like this add an extra layer of care.
