After looking at the best Claire moments, it’s time to look at the best Jamie moments from Outlander’s The Doldrums.

Jamie tends to have what many fans now would considered old-fashioned views. They’re actually views of the time and have been his personality from the very start of Outlander. It’s not surprising that this somewhat caring and protective side brings out some of his best moments in episodes.

With that breakdown in mind, it’s time to look at his best moments in “The Doldrums.”

#1. Refusing to allow Fergus and Marsali to marry

Jamie’s believed duty to Marsali and Joanie led to questionable decisions with Laoghaire. But those decisions are now in the past and he now has a new adventure to save his nephew. This led to being onboard the Artemis and learning Fergus and Marsali had been handfasted, which is as good as marriage.

However, Jamie acts like a father to both Fergus and Marsali, despite Fergus being old enough to look after himself. He refuses to allow them to marry, with the journey being far too dangerous for a teenager. It’s a sweet and laughable moment, as he has to quickly weigh up whether to allow her to travel or risk ruining her reputation.

#2. Discussing Brianna

It must be hard for Jamie, knowing that his daughter is all grown up and somewhere 200 years in the future. Not talking about her makes sense when that is considered. He may not really want to acknowledge and accept everything that he’s lost.

However, during the episode he talks to Claire about their daughter and about how much she misses Brianna. It’s a chance for Jamie to show that he deeply cares for his wife and to get back the intimacy they once had.

#3. Commenting on Claire’s hair

This could have been a dangerous move, but it actually showed how shallow Jamie isn’t. Claire worried so much about getting older to the point that she dyed her hair before leaving. Jamie also worried about what Claire would think when she saw him with glasses. But when it came down to both seeing their aged selves, they were accepting and polite.

This Jamie moment in Outlander Season 3, Episode 9 after they have sex for the first time on the ship is another example of intimacy. It shows that they’re getting back to what they once were.

#4. Telling Claire to touch the horseshoe

Claire is bad luck on a ship, and so is not touching a horseshoe before the ship leaves port. When she walks past the horseshoe without touching it, Jamie stops her and gets her to do it anyway. He knows that she doesn’t believe in this stuff, but it’s worth touching just to put the crews’ minds at ease.

The big question is why didn’t she already known about the superstitions? Jamie had taken her on a ship to Paris and back. Why didn’t he tell her about it then?

#5. Saving Duncan from going overboard

When the crew start searching for their Jonah, Duncan Hayes is the one blamed. Duncan decides rather than being thrown overboard by the crew, he’ll climb up the mast.

What makes this such a great moment? It shows that Jamie is finally becoming the guy we remember. After years of working on the wrong side of the law and living in caves or prisons, he’s been able to find the honorable and kind guy that he once was. And he’s loyal to his friends, which Hayes is from prison. There’s hope for Jamie in the future.
