Caitriona Balfe Uses Star Power for Good

The Outlander lead actress, Caitriona Balfe, is using her growing popularity to call fans into action to do something to help Syrian refugees exiled from their homes. This is not the first time she has used her powers for good.

For weeks, people have been horrified by the images coming out of Europe with the Syrian refugee. The Outlander actress and humanitarian, Caitriona Balfe could not sit idly by while people are suffering. After retweeting a few news organization reporting on the ongoing humanitarian crisis, she took to social media to speak to her fans directly. While she appreciated the fans voting for her in the 2015 Girl on Top competition, she felt their focus would be better served on do something to help the refugees. Talk about keeping things in your life in perspective.

Caitriona has lent her star power to causes she close too. The organization who gains her support have a champion at their side. As patron of World Child Cancer, she has been very vocal in interviews, social media, and advertisements for the group. In a recent World Child Cancer campaign hundreds of thousands of dollars were raised in her name.

Cait has also been outspoken about social issues around the world. She has been candid in her support for same-sex marriage. Earlier this year her home of Ireland had put same-sex marriage up to a vote. She encouraged her Irish fans to vote. She led by example by taking the time fly home to Ireland for the vote. Ireland became the first nation to approve same-sex marriage by a popular vote.

Due to her Outlander success, Cait knows people are sitting up and paying attention to what she says and does. It is nice to see she uses her star power, not for her financial gain, but to help people who cannot help themselves. Caitriona is the kind of actress you want a young actor to emulate.
