Sam came up against his on-screen love Caitriona Balfe in the semi-final. Cait knocked out names such as Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones) and Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black) before coming up against Sam. He narrowly beat her out by an extremely slim margin.

Sam took to Twitter to comment on his head-to-head round with Cait:

After the announcement that he’d won, Sam thanked fans on Twitter once more, proving that he’s not only a great actor and a phenomenal Jamie Fraser, but a pretty awesome guy IRL, too. Of course, no one has to tell Outlander fans that. And with the outpouring of support for both Sam and Cait during the showdown, it seems the world is tapping into these amazing people and this amazing show.

The Outlander community has always been out there, but now we have faces for our fandom, and I for one could not be happier.

In this Radio Times interview with Sam, he expressed his gratitude and thanked the loyal fans:

"“An incredible war has just been fought! Battling some huge Science Fiction icons and our fans did it! I’m honored to be awarded the Radio Times Sci-Fi Champion. Outlander fans have proven they are the most passionate, supportive and dedicated. I gratefully accept it on behalf of them. And Jamie and Claire…”"

Thank YOU, Sam. We love ya, buddy!
