In Outlander season 4, we meet Jocasta Cameron in North Carolina, where we learn she was married to three different Cameron men. Now we have a chance to meet a younger version of the character, and she’s currently only on her first husband in Outlander: Blood of My Blood.
It’s easy to get a little confused with the timelines. What I will say is that it’s best to avoid trying to match up with the timelines in the book. Not only is the show its own entity, but even the books didn’t quite get timelines and ages right. So, it’s best not to get too stuck on that matter.
It’s hard to say how old the characters are supposed to be in Outlander: Blood of My Blood, but we know that Ellen MacKenzie is considered an “old maid” at this point. Jocasta is already married, and she’s angry at Ellen for setting up that union.

Jocasta is married to John Cameron in Outlander: Blood of My Blood
Jocasta mentions the name of the man she is married to right now. It’s John Cameron, the first of the three Cameron men she ends up marrying in her lifetime.
While there isn’t a year set for when the two married, I’d have suggested it would have been around 1716 or 1717 in the books. That’s only because Jocasta was born in 1702, and that would have made her around 14 or 15 when she married. She certainly looks a lot older than 15 in Outlander: Blood of My Blood. Again, we’re not working with the timeframes in the books, but this is just an observation to try to help people make sense of things.
What we do know from the book is that Jocasta and John will have one child. This child is born in 1718, so we’re looking at a few more years before Jocasta gets pregnant. Again, things could change in the TV show universe as it doesn’t have to stick to the timelines set in the books.
John was a much older man than Jocasta was, which is why she’s so angry that Ellen set her up with this marriage. In Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 1, episode 5, Ellen makes it clear that John was the best of a bad bunch of suitors, and it just goes to show how women have been pawns for men for so long.

What happens to John Cameron in the Outlander books?
Jocasta is made a widow young. John gets sick with the flux and it kills him. However, Jocasta’s daughter lives to adulthood, getting married and having two children of her own. Sadly, Clementina and her children die in the aftermath of Culloden in 1743.
After John’s death, Jocasta marries his cousin, Hugh Cameron. When he dies, Jocasta then marries Hector Cameron, who is with her until they get to the colonies. Unfortunately, the daughters Jocasta has with both her second and third husband also die, and we meet a widowed, alone Jocasta in Outlander season 4.
Outlander: Blood of My Blood airs on Fridays on STARZ.
