As William learns about his parentage, he goes off to figure himself out. He’s angry at the entire situation, and we can’t really blame him. Not only has everyone around him lied to him, but he now has no idea who he really is. Can he really called himself a lord when he’s learned that he’s illegitimate?

He meets Arabella in the books, and he forms a bond with her. It’s not love, but there is an attraction and a sense of caring there. Let’s dive into who Jane is and what we can expect for Jane and William as the series continues.

Jane has a heartbreaking story in Outlander

In the Outlander books, we learn that Jane is simply trying to find a way to support herself and her sister, Fanny. Their family died, and Jane had to turn to prostitution to save her sister.

However, things take a turn when Captain Harkness goes after Jane. He’s mad that William got to her instead, and he ends up with a need for revenge. What better way for him than to take Fanny’s maidenhead. Of course, Jane will do whatever it takes to protect her sister’s honor and mental state, so she decides to kill Captain Harkness.

She needs William’s help to get herself and her sister out of trouble. They manage to escape with the help of William and Rachel, but it’s not for long. A friend of Captain Harkness recognizes Jane and she’s arrested for murder. As William arranges protection for Fanny via Jamie and Claire, Jane kills herself while imprisoned.

It is a heartbreaking story for Jane, but it shows us the type of man William also is. He wants to protect those who have no other way of protecting themselves, and he understands that bad things are sometimes necessary to save yourself or those you love. They share a bond that helps William initially deal with his anger over his current situation.
