There is a lot going on in The Buccaneers season 2, episode 5, with a marriage that isn’t one that we expected. Meanwhile, the torrid affair continues, but for how long?

After the way The Buccaneers season 2, episode 4 ended, it’s not that surprising to find out that Theo and Lizzy are still having their torrid affair. Nan returning from Italy so unexpectedly throws everything off, and it’s clear that it’s only a matter of time before Nan realizes that Lizzy is sleeping with her husband. That earring on the stairs has to come up again.
Theo has hope of being with Lizzy in The Buccaneers season 2, episode 5
When Nan returns, she tells Theo the full truth. She only came back to be able to push the bill through to give Jinny some freedom. After that, she and Theo can go their separate ways. They won’t announce their separation, but they also won’t live together.
That’s exactly what Theo would like, as it means that he can have Lizzy as well. However, maybe he can’t, as when Lizzy hears that she will end up being a secret mistress, she realizes that that isn’t what she wants. At least a marriage to Hector will bring her stability. So, as much as she isn’t sure about her marriage to Hector, she decides to go through with it.
Theo does try one more time to stop the wedding, but not for his sake. He wants Lizzy to choose herself and her happiness, and not settle for a man who doesn’t make her excited about life. I feel for Hector, though, as I really think that Lizzy hasn’t given him a chance.
We don’t get to see how the wedding ends, though. All we get confirmation of is that Blanche is back now that Nan has returned, and she makes it clear that she wants Reede, Hector’s father. At least, someone gets a happy ending.
Mabel realizes that her relationship with Honoria is likely ending
Meanwhile, Mabel and Conchita make up, with Mabel noting that Conchita just thought that she was doing the right thing. The poor girl has no idea why Mabel’s mom tried to get Conchita to set Mabel up with a lord, and she can’t exactly tell her friend, either.
However, Mabel does realize that her relationship with Honoria is likely coming to an end. When Reede makes a passing remark about Honoria teaching in Provence, France, Honoria brushes it off as a pipe dream, but Mabel can see that this is what Honoria wants. Their lives aren’t going to match, and Mabel is mature enough to realize that and accept it.
There is a sense of hope, though. Mabel’s mom makes it clear that Mabel needs to keep exploring the world. She needs to do what makes her happy, although she doesn’t agree with her sexuality, and that’s not completely surprising considering the time period.
Guy ends up getting married in The Buccaneers season 2
In a surprising turn of events, things end with a wedding ring for Paloma. She goes to see Guy to chew him out for being with Nan, which leads to Guy telling her the truth about Jinny. Once Jinny returns, Paloma and Guy go out drinking.
For Jinny, it gives her time to secretly meet with James. Of course, with the second meeting, his mask slips. He wants to force Jinny back to a life of submission, even though she doesn’t want that. She wanted to give this marriage time to see if it could work. Well, James is not happy with that, and we’re sure to see more to this as the season continues.
As for Guy and Paloma, they wake up the next morning in bed together, and Paloma is relieved to find out that sex isn’t as boring as Jinny made it out. Well, now Paloma understands what Jinny was meaning! However, as Paloma leaves, she is shocked to realize that there’s a ring on her finger. While the two were drinking, it looks like they got married! This is sure to make a mess of a lot of plans.
