Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for The Buccaneers season 2, episode 4.
The episode of The Buccaneers picks up weeks after Nan left for Italy. Theo is still moping around about his wife walking away, Blanche is stuck in exile waiting for her son to forgive her, and Lizzy is starting to question if she’s making the right decision.

Theo makes a move on Lizzy in The Buccaneers season 2, episode 4
It’s hard not to feel for Hector in this episode. All he wants is to raise awareness and money for his causes, but as Theo turns up and throws his money at the auction, the focus turns on him. Lizzy is unhappy with the way Hector is acting, but he’s right to feel this way. Nobody really cares how he feels about the entire situation.
When Theo makes a move on Lizzy, she initially kisses him back and then pulls away. She’s just weeks away from marrying Hector, and here Theo is doing exactly what Guy did to him. Do Theo and Lizzy not see the irony in all of this? I guess not, because Lizzy decides to find Theo again and passionately kisses him.
I’m all for people finding happiness, but not at the expense of someone else’s. Lizzy needs to break up with Hector first, but instead, she is going to cause shame for herself, Theo, Hector, and Nan. She’s not being a great friend!

Nan realizes that she can’t have her happiness in The Buccaneers
Speaking of friend, that friend, Nan, has heading to Italy. She finds out where Guy and Jinny are staying, but she immediately feels like she is intruding. In a way, she is. Jinny and Guy have managed to find a way to be happy together, even if they’re not together together. There is always a chance for that.
Well, there would have been had Nan not turned up. That led to Seadown turning up, and he says all the right things to get Jinny to choose to be with him. She just can’t leave her abusive husband! To be honest, until things are changed for women, she would have to live a life on the run forever, and she doesn’t really want that.
Nan realizes that she can’t be happy in Italy. She needs to go back if she wants to keep Jinny safe from her abusive husband. The only way to do that is to get the law changed. Of course, after the day at a wedding — which Jinny’s friend saw Guy with Nan at — the two had found their love and spark for each other again. Guy is understandably angry that Nan has turned up, made him feel all this hope for the two of them to be together, just to leave him again. Nan shouldn’t have acted on a whim at all, and she needs to learn to think things through.

Blanche decides she needs to wait for her son
Meanwhile, Blanche is in exile of sorts. She’s back at what seems to be a former family estate, where she seems happy gardening. Hector’s dad shows up, and he immediately connects with her in the garden.
There is a chance for the two of them to be happy. Blanche even tells him everything that she did for Nan and how she hurt Theo. She is accepting her punishment, but she knows that her son still needs her. She will remain in England until Theo asks for her to come back, and that means she can’t escape to France with her lover.
There is a beautiful moment where she says that she knows she would be happy with Hector’s dad. However, in the end, she has to put duty first. She has the fantasy of what life could be like for a little longer.

Mabel learns what Conchita is doing in The Buccaneers
Finally, Dickie and Conchita are trying to set Mabel up with someone, and they think they have the perfect man. Honoria is jealous of Mabel playing the part that she’s supposed to at the party for a while. That is until Mabel realizes what is going on.
Mabel finds out that Conchita has taken money from her mom to set her up with someone. She’s not interested in this, and she won’t play the game for any longer. This could be the end of this friendship, although I’m sure if the two talked things through they could understand where each other is coming from. The friendship that can’t be saved is Nan and Lizzy’s at this rate.
