It’s Halloween, but that doesn’t mean romance is dead. Or maybe it could be undead? It depends on the supernatural romance that you want in your life.

There are some fabulous romance shows that involve a bit of the supernatural in them. Some are all about vampires, while others are about ghosts and witches. They’re the perfect binge over Halloween weekend—and yes, it’s a weekend in 2025!

Not sure where to start? We have five great picks to get you started, and then you’ll find other shows that connect well with them.

The Vampire Diaries

There is one place to start for the vampire romance, and that’s The Vampire Diaries. Based on the books by the late L.J. Smith, The Vampire Diaries follows Elena Gilbert, who falls in love with a vampire named Stefan Salvatore. When his brother turns up, she initially hates him, but we all know that hate turns to love, and so we end up with a vampire love triangle.

I do prefer to end this around season 4, as that’s when the quality of the series went downhill for me, but I have sat through the final four seasons as much as possible. What I do love is the doppelganger storyline, and I wish that more could have been done to really explain and expand on that.

I will always love The Vampire Diaries for giving me The Originals, so you’ll want to follow up with that afterward. I’ll happily take more of Elijah and Klaus.

A Discovery of Witches

What about a romance series that focuses on different types of supernatural beings and has a connection to the Salem Witch Trials? A Discovery of Witches is the show you need, and this one is based on the book trilogy by Deborah Harkness.

It follows Diana Bishop, a reluctant witch who realizes that she may be the only person able to help all the magical species from dying out. Of course, there are certain species who would prefer some of them to die out, and that puts her at risk. So, a vampire named Matthew has to step in to protect her, and the romance builds from there.

Outlander fans will love this series from the second season. Steven Cree stars as Gallowglass, and he is a character to wish more for.

Being Human

This series focuses on a vampire, a werewolf, and a ghost all living in the same house together, trying to figure out how to get along. They’re also trying to figure out how to survive in a world with humans, protecting them and protecting themselves.

However, as Being Human continues, there is a romance element to it. I won’t spoil who falls for who, but there are some cute moments and relationships that you’ll find yourself rooting for. On top of that, there are some great friendships that blossom from this, proving that different species can get along if they want to.

Carnival Row

If you’re looking for a quick binge-watch this Halloween, then you’ll want to turn to the two-season story of Carnival Row. We get a couple of romances, whether it’s between fae and half-fae or human and fae. It’s the fae that make this a supernatural series, but in this world, they’re not magical creatures. Instead, they’re people from a different part of the globe.

Not only do we have romance in the series, but there’s also the topic of segregation and racism throughout. The second season is heavy on the topic of revolution, and while it is a shame that this series didn’t quite get the ending that it deserved, the romance is worth watching.

Oh, and Outlander fans, Andrew Gower stars in the two seasons of the series. While he doesn’t say “mark me,” there are a few Bonnie Prince Charlie similarities. There is also some familiar material in the series.

Lucifer

Okay, so Lucifer is more detective show rather than romance, but there is a romance from the very beginning. And there are other romances that form throughout the series, which means you just can’t overlook it. Plus, this supernatural series is far different to the others, as it is all about the King of Hell.

Well, not quite the King of Hell. Lucifer doesn’t want to rule Hell anymore, so he’s come to Earth to own a nightclub. Why not? Well, that changes when he ends up becoming a consultant for the LAPD and realizes that there is something different about “The Detective.”

Yes, there is an Outlander connection. Graham McTavish was in Lucifer season 4.
