Outlander: Blood of My Blood has added four more cast members to the series. One of those is Malcolm Grant, who will be played by Jhon Lumsden.

We have heard a few stories of Ellen and Brian in the world of Outlander. This prequel series is a chance to delve deeper into their love story. Of course, that means we need to see the many suitors of Ellen MacKenzie.

We know Murtagh had the hots for Ellen. There were others as well. Brian was the one she chose, and Murtagh supported that decision and looked out for the two of them after that. I love how he remained loyal to them both and then remained loyal to his godson Jamie.

But back to another suitor for Ellen. It’s all about Malcolm Grant.

Malcolm Grant is who the MacKenzie brothers want Ellen to marry in Outlander: Blood of My Blood

In the Outlander novels, Malcolm Grant is known as the chieftan of Clan Grant. In the prequel series, he is going to be the son of the chieftan of the clan. This suggests that we’re going a little further back than the stories we’ve heard throughout the series.

This makes sense as it was Colum and Dougal who wanted Ellen to marry Malcolm. Red Jacob wasn’t going to force his daughter to marry someone she didn’t want to. However, he likely knew the Grants before he died, and it would make sense for Ellen and Malcolm to have some time together before she ends up rejecting him outright.

Colum and Dougal needed to ease tensions with the Grants. The best way to do that was to marry Ellen to Malcolm. She had other plans. During the 1716 Gathering at Castle Leoch, Ellen ran away and eloped with Brian Fraser. They remained away until Ellen was visibly pregnant, making it impossible for Colum and Dougal to annul their marriage without embarrassment and social stigma.

Ellen and Colum never spoke again. Malcolm and the Grants never forgave the MacKenzies for what had happened.
