It didn’t take long for The Librarians: The Next Chapter to find a new home. It’s somewhat surprising, but also not at the same time.
It was only earlier this week that The CW announced a change to its fall schedule. The Librarians: The Next Chapter was pulled from the schedule in favor of a reality show. The CW didn’t share if this was a permanent decision or if the show was going to be moved to a midseason timeslot.
Well, it looks like it was a permanent decision. Of course, we knew that this series would be shopped around. Dean Devlin was not going to let this show just die because of changes at The CW. It didn’t take long for the series to find a new home.
The Librarians: The Next Chapter heads back to the home of the OG series
TNT is picking up the series, according to TVLine. This is both surprising and unsurprising.
The surprising fact is that it was only a couple of years ago that TNT pulled out of the scripted programming business. Fans of Snowpiercer were livid to learn that the fully-filmed fourth season wouldn’t end up airing and it took a long time to find a home for those last episodes.
Now TNT is making a U-turn on that decision. To start filling its scripted slate, it’s taking The Librarians: The Next Chapter.
And in a way this isn’t a surprising move. It’s also a smart one. The OG series, The Librarians, ran for four seasons on this network. There is already a fanbase, and it makes sense for fans to go back to the home they originally watched the show on.
It looks like the series is planned for a 2025 launch, as TNT is looking to push more scripted programming next year. We’ll be sure to keep an eye out for this one.
