I'd still put the Outlander Season 8 release window in 2026

As much as we would love Outlander Season 8 to arrive next year, I’m still getting ready for a 2026 release date. That’s despite filming wrapping on the show.

When we learned that filming wouldn’t start until later this year, I immediately suspected that we wouldn’t get the release until 2026. And while that makes Droughtlander longer, it’s secretly a good thing. It means that we won’t see the final season for just a little bit longer. One Outlander Season 8 airs, the series is finished.

Outlander: Blood of My Blood is slated for 2025 on Starz

There’s already an Outlander series heading our way next year. Outlander: Blood of My Blood is the prequel that many fans have waited for, sharing the love story of Jamie’s parents—and Claire’s parents, too! We know that it is slated to arrive in 2025 as Starz has already told us.

Would the network really want to put two shows within the same franchise on in the same year? That doesn’t make much sense in a business way. There are plenty of people who only sign up to Starz for Outlander, so once the episodes have aired, that’s it. Some people unsubscribe and will never come back.

So, it makes more sense to spread out the two shows. It’s not like fans are getting the same type of Droughtlander as before with Blood of My Blood airing.

It takes time to get through Outlander Season 8 post production

It takes around the same amount of time to get through post production as it does to get through filming. With that in mind, we’re looking at a good six to eight months for Outlander Season 8.

Okay, that does mean we could see the series ready for early to mid-2025. So, why wouldn’t Starz release it then? Well, again, we have Outlander: Blood of My Blood. Another reason is that Starz will want to make sure that this series is ready. If any reshoots are needed, that will lead to more time. If there’s extra ADR (the additional voice recording done to help with voice overs and any off-screen statements), then that would take some extra time.

If Starz was planning on a 2025 release date for Outlander Season 8, I think we’d know by now. Starz is likely playing it safe, especially since it looks like other shows have been pushed back into 2025 already.

My gut is just saying 2026. I hope I'm wrong and we get it at the end of 2025 to keep Droughtlander shorter, but in a way, I'm ready for 2026 as the goodbye year to this series.
