A Robin Hood drama series is in the works, and here's what we know so far
He would steal from the rich to give to the poor. Robin Hood is one of those fictional characters who may be based on some truth that we all love. It’s not surprising then that he’s become a character many creators have wanted to craft stories around.
There’s a Robin Hood drama series now in the works. It’s been greenlit, and there is even a release year. Here’s what we know so far.
Who has ordered Robin Hood?
The new series has been greenlit by MGM+. This is the same home as Beacon 23 and The Winter King, both of which were recently canceled. It is also the home of The Chicken Sisters, which is certainly worth the watch!
The series will air where MGM+ is available. It’s not clear yet as to where it will air elsewhere.
It is set to arrive in 2025.
How many episodes will be in the first season?
MGM+ has ordered 10 episodes for the first season. It is not billed as a limited series, which means the network is open to more.
Jonathan English and John Glenn are behind Robin Hood
The series comes from Jonathan English, who has executive produced Librarians: The Next Chapter, which recently found a new home after The CW opted not to air it. John Glenn will be showrunner on the series, who SEAL Team fans will know as the showrunner of that series. It certainly tells us that it will be historical fiction with a lot of action!
What to expect in the series
We’re assuming that it is historical fiction. However, it is a modern take on the classic tale. With something that is technically fantasy, it’s possible to have modern set in the past.
We won’t just get the classic tale of stealing from the rich and giving to the poor. There’s a love story to tell. We all know of Robin Hood’s love for Marian, and this series will give us that epic tale.
Marian is the daughter of a Norman lord, with Robin—known as Rob in this series—the son of a Saxon forester. They fall in love as they fight for freedom and justice after the Norman invasion of England. Rob becomes the leader of a band of rebels, while Marian decides to infiltrate from the inside, bringing peace to the land in a way that plays to both of their strengths.
