It’s been 11 years since Outlander first started production. Now we’re getting ready for the end. Before that, there’s an exciting milestone to mark.

In September, Outlander started filming the final block of episodes. This meant a milestone would be reached. The series has marked 100 episodes filmed, and like all other shows that meet this milestone, there was a special celebration.

Entertainment Weekly got the exclusive footage of the party, which included a cake that Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe cut with Jamie’s sword. What better way to mark the milestone than with a moment that was almost like a wedding for the two who have become Claire and Jamie? David Berry was also there to celebrate, sporting the scruffy beard that has a lot of fans talking.

Outlander hits the 100-episode milestone

It’s rare for a show to reach 100 episodes now. Too many are canceled after just a couple of seasons, and that is something Outlander feared would happen when they first started up. This was set to be a small series, and there was a lot of celebration when the series was picked up for a second season.

It arguably hit a turning point when the series went to Netflix internationally. Then it hit another turning point when Netflix in the U.S. landed some of the episodes. More people turned to Starz to watch as new seasons were released.

Even then, it didn’t look like 100 episodes would happen. During the pandemic, the sixth season was cut from 12 episodes to just eight. The four episodes were moved to Season 7 instead, which was split in two parts to air with either episodes each. At one point, it looked like this season would be the last. Even Maril Davis feared that.

Then Outlander Season 8 was picked up for 10 episodes. It was confirmed immediately to be the final season, giving the series time to wrap up all storylines in a way that suits the TV show. It definitely won’t work for book fans!

How much filming of Outlander has happened in 100 episodes?

Showrunner Matt B. Roberts spoke about how much filming has happened to make these 100 episodes. While it’s taken 11 years to get to this point, if the show was shot continuously, it would have taken four years to create.

There was still another unit to shoot at the time, as the series is actually going to end on 101 episodes.

While Outlander Season 8 is still filming, fans have Season 7B to look forward to. There is also the prequel series Outlander: Blood of My Blood to come.

Outlander Season 7B premieres on Friday, Nov. 22 on Starz.
