At one point, it looked like Outlander Season 7 was going to be the end. This is something Maril Davis confirmed, and the series was written in a way that would lead to an ending. However, Starz agreed to a 10-episode eighth and final season.
Sam Heughan talked to The Herald about the final season, and he made it clear that this final season is important. It allows the cast and crew to offer fans closure for the TV series.
Sam Heughan pushed for Outlander Season 8
Heughan shared how he pushed for this final season. He didn’t want the series to end with a cliffhanger or in a way that would leave fans needing—and not just wanting—more. He wanted to make sure there was an ending for the fans of the series.
Finishing the story is also important for Heughan. He has been in this role for more than 10 years now. He wants to make sure that he has closure from the role.
With it being so long in the role, he has admitted that he may need some therapy after the end of the series. It is going to be a serious change after the constant filming and the press circuit schedule.
Outlander’s series finale will be an end to the TV show’s story
Heughan has warned fans that the series may not be what everyone wants. He doesn’t think that it will be the ending that he wants. That’s no shade to the writers. It’s due to the timing of the writing. Diana Gabaldon hasn’t finished the 10th book, which completes the original Outlander story.
The TV series has made some changes here and there. Plus, the series doesn’t have the time to do all of Book 9 and then anything from Book 10 that Gabaldon has shared. So, the TV series needs to wrap things up based on its own story, and that’s something Heughan has said will happen.
So, while it may not be what everyone wants, there will be closure. We’re still looking forward to the Outlander series finale.
Outlander Season 7B premieres on Friday, Nov. 22 on Starz.
