After an initially devastating meeting, Buck MacKenzie proved that he was willing to make things right. After hearing that Jemmy had likely been taken through to stones to Buck’s own time, Buck offered to go back through the stones with Roger to find him. We saw that happen at the end of Outlander Season 7A.

Now eyes are on what to expect in Outlander Season 7B. The good thing about this series is we have the books, which tell us a rough guide on how the story should play out. This particular storyline is taken from Written in My Own Heart’s Blood.

Buck has a rather interesting storyline in the next part of the story. How much of it will play out? Of course, we’re delving into book spoilers from this point.

Buck suffers from a bad heart in Outlander Season 7B

The book reminds us that time travel is dangerous. One way it does that is by making some time travelers ill afterward, and Buck is one of them. He ends up suffering with a bad heart after the trip through the stones. It requires another time traveler who is a healer to help him.

This is when we meet Dr. McEwan. It’s not clear if McEwan will be included in Outlander Season 7B. This storyline could be skipped over. There isn’t a lot of time to fit everything in, and there are much bigger moments for Roger and Buck in the past.

Dr. McEwan’s storyline is important in the book for two reasons. It reminds us of the dangers of time travel, which is important for other characters later, and it reminds us of Claire’s future ability to heal. There is also a moment for Roger as his throat is healed a little, although that’s not a major storyline in the TV series.

Buck meets his parents in Written in My Own Heart’s Blood

It’s another part of Buck’s time in the past that is more important. I think we get a sense of why Buck is presumed dead in 1778. It turns out he may stay in 1739.

That’s the year Roger and Buck end up in. It gives Buck a chance to meet his biological parents, Geillis and Dougal. He had no idea that he was actually the son of the War Chief of Clan MacKenzie. While he’s interested in learning this, it’s clear that he doesn’t have any affection for his dad as a father. It’s also clear that he doesn’t view Geillis as his mother. He is physically attracted to Geillis, which sets up a weird storyline.

This storyline is sure to play out. After all, it’s one of those quirky parts of time travel and allows Buck to meet both of his parents, who are both dead in his own time. We know Geillis and Dougal are back in Outlander Season 7B, so the door is open for this.
