What to expect for Ian Murray in Outlander Season 7B based on the books?

We know Ian Murray will be in Outlander Season 7B. What type of story will be told?

When Outlander told us that Ian Murray would return in Season 7, book fans knew what it meant. Jamie, Claire, and Young Ian were heading back to Scotland. Well, they made it there at the end of Outlander Season 7A, and now it’s time for them to head to Lallybroch.

This post will take a look at the storylines from An Echo in the Bone, which is when we catch back up with the Murray clan. If you don’t want to know about the book spoilers, you know this post isn’t for you!

Ian Murray is suffering with his health in Outlander Season 7B

It’s not going to be a fully happy reunion for all the characters. Remember back in Outlander Season 3 when Ian was taken to prison? It’s clear this wasn’t the first time, and those trips took their toll on Ian’s health.

It’s not like hygiene was good in the past at the best of times. It was even worse in the prisons, and Ian ended up contracting consumption—that would be TB now. When Claire, Jamie, and Young Ian get back to Lallybroch, they find out that Ian Murray doesn’t have much longer left to live.

Jenny begs Claire to save her husband. After all, Claire should be able to do this. She’s a healer, right? We, like Claire, know that it’s not possible, though. Not only does Claire not have what’s needed to treat consumption, but it’s too late for a treatment to take effect. Her hands are tied.

Ian accepts his fate. He knows that Claire wouldn’t leave him to die if she could do something. Jenny doesn’t have the same mindset, and she thinks that Claire is punishing her.

Jamie is there for Ian in his last days in An Echo in the Bone

Claire and Young Ian head back to America before Ian Murray dies. However, Jamie remains behind. They are brothers to the end, and Jamie makes sure that Ian has people with him.

This sets up a particular storyline in America between Claire and Lord John Grey. I’ll let you check out their posts to find out what’s in store for them!
