Outlander Season 7B may still be a couple of months away, but we have time to get ready. There’s time to look ahead and see what could play out in the next eight episodes.
Outlander Season 7 has combined An Echo in the Bone and Written in My Own Heart’s Blood. We know that based on Bree and Roger’s storyline in 1980, and we’re sure to see some of the eighth book storyline set in the 1700s happen in the next set of eight episodes.
So, what happens to Claire Fraser in those books? What can we expect in Outlander Season 7B? Let’s take a look—and yes, there are some spoilers for those who haven’t read the books yet.
Claire Fraser starts off in Scotland in Outlander Season 7B
One thing is clear from the way Outlander Season 7A ended. Claire Fraser is back in Scotland, along with Jamie and Young Ian. This isn’t a happy family reunion, though. While there, Claire learns that Ian Murray is close to death, and there is nothing Claire can do. Ian has consumption, and there is no treatment for it.
Of course, Jenny believes that Claire is just being mean after the way things ended between them when Claire and Jamie went to Jamaica to save Young Ian. That’s not the case at all, but Jenny is too scared and in her grief to accept that.
Laoghaire also becomes a problem while Claire and Jamie are in Scotland, and we know Laoghaire is back in Outlander Season 7B. However, there is a way around her wanting money. Everyone learns that Laoghaire has a new man, but this man doesn’t have a lot of money and Laoghaire doesn’t want to lose that. Claire is able to trap Laoghaire into letting Jamie go due to a letter Laoghaire gets from Marsali.
It turns out that Henri-Christian is suffering from a health problem that is treatable. Laoghaire doesn’t realize that Claire loves Henri-Christian as her own grandson, so Laoghaire makes a deal while begging for Claire’s help. She will stop her fight for money from Jamie if Claire will go back to America to heal Henri-Christian.
So, off Claire and Young Ian go back to America. Jamie stays behind to be with Jenny as Ian Murray dies.
Claire marries Lord John Grey in the Outlander books
While in America, Claire ends up treating Henri-Christian and Hal Grey. She also comes across Captain Richardson again, who causes problems for Claire.
Jamie writes to Claire to share the ship name that he is coming across on. That ship sinks, and everyone believes Jamie to be dead. With the British believing Claire to be a spy, Lord John Grey makes it clear that they need to marry so that Claire can be protected. It is what Jamie would want.
And so they do. Only it turns out that Jamie wasn’t on the ship that sank. He and Jenny missed that one and had to get a later one. By the time Jamie gets back to America, Claire and Lord John Grey have been married for a few months and they have consummated that marriage.
Claire and Jamie manage to work through the issues that come from that. After all, Jamie knows deep down that Claire didn’t have a choice. The two can’t leave Philadelphia right away, though. They need to keep fighting in the Revolutionary War, but it’s at the Battle of Monmouth that that takes a turn.
In the midst of the battle, Claire is shot and almost killed. Jamie resigns his commission to take care of his wife. After the recovery, it’s time for the whole family to make their way back home. They have seen enough war for now.
I do expect to see all of this play out in Outlander Season 7B. They are major moments for the family. I even expect the Season 7B finale to end with the “Hello, the house” moment from the end of the eighth book—Bree, Roger, and their children make it back to the past.
We’ll have to wait and see how it all plays out in full, though. Outlander Season 7B premieres on Friday, Nov. 22 on Starz.
