We know that Dougal MacKenzie is going to be in Outlander Season 7B. Now we want to know how.

It’s time to turn to the Outlander books for the answers. Written in My Own Heart’s Blood is when Dougal comes back into the story. No, this isn’t as a ghost. We get to see him in a different time period.

It’s during Roger and Buck’s storyline. They end up in a time they weren’t supposed to, although it is for a good reason. Let’s dive into what happens to Dougal.

Dougal is collecting rent in the Outlander books

We meet Dougal MacKenzie while he is riding around the countryside collecting rents. This brings him to Angus MacLaren’s house, a man who is scared. There’s been an issue with a woman’s croft burning down and a man found hanged in there. This woman is viewed with some superstitious opinions, and Dougal learns that her name is Geillis Isbister. She’s gone to Cranesmuir, so he will head there.

Before he does that, though, he needs to talk with Roger MacKenzie. He hears about how Roger and Buck are looking for Roger’s missing son, and Dougal opens the doors to Castle Leoch should Roger ever find himself that way. Colum will welcome him in. It’s definitely a different Dougal to the one we know when he came across Claire! It does help that Roger is ready for the past this time.

Dougal also wants to know about Roger’s hanging. Roger shares what he can, but he leaves out that it was Buck who orchestrated it.

In the end, Dougal leaves Roger and Buck horses so that they can head out across the countryside looking for Jemmy.

Dougal and Geillis will meet in Outlander Season 7B

I’ll admit that I don’t remember all the details, but I don’t remember Dougal actually meeting Geillis in the Outlander books. We know that he’s heading to Cranesmuir to find her, but that’s it.

However, it’s clear that the two of them will meet in Outlander Season 7B. This is important for the overall story. It’s great for Buck to see his parents meeting, even if he doesn’t connect them as his parents. He didn’t know these details until Roger and Bree told him.

I think this is also important for fans. We need to see Dougal and Geillis hint at wanting the same thing for the future. This sets up their affair storyline.
