3 deaths we're not ready for in Outlander before it ends
Some Outlander deaths are sure to hurt more than others. There are three we know happen in the books and are likely to happen in the TV series before it ends. No matter how much we prepare, we’re not ready for them.
Caution: There are MAJOR SPOILERS from the Outlander books if you’re not caught up!
One of the deaths will definitely happen in Outlander Season 7B. The other two are likely to come in Outlander Season 8, and I’m getting teary-eyed just thinking of them.
Outlander Season 7B death: Ian Murray
Jamie, Claire, and Young Ian have made it back to Scotland. We know that we’ll get to see some fan-favorite characters in Outlander Season 7B, including Jenny and Ian Murray. This comes with a heartbreaking loss.
When Claire, Jamie, and Young Ian get to Lallybroch, they learn that Ian Murray is dying. Claire diagnoses him with TB, which is known as consumption at the time. He likely got it when in and out of prison while the Murrays protected Jamie after Culloden. Jenny begs for Claire to save her husband, but Claire can’t manage it. There is no cure for consumption.
This death hurts because there is nothing for Claire to do. Jenny believes that Claire is doing this on purpose, but we know that there is nothing. It’s hard to watch Jenny so fearful of losing her soulmate.
Likely Outlander Season 8 death: Henri-Christian Fraser
We have met Henri-Christian Fraser in Outlander Season 6. He is the youngest child of Fergus and Marsali Fraser, and he is the dwarf the kids at the Ridge put in the river, leading to Roger jumping in to save the babe. Fergus and Marsali are now away running a print shop. In the books, they head up to Philadelphia at first, but it sounds like they’re in Wilmington in the TV series.
Either way, this is all set to lead to a harrowing death. There’s a fire at the print shop. While Fergus and Marslai get their daughters out, Germain and Henri-Christian head to the rooftop. Sadly, Henri-Christian falls to his death. It’s one of the hardest deaths in the entire book series.
Like Outlander Season 8 death: Rollo
I hate it when dogs die in movies. Usually, it’s for no reason but to add heartbreak to a storyline. Well, there’s a dog death in the Outlander books. Rollo dies after Young Ian gets back. In this case, he dies of old age and it happens in his sleep, but it’s still absolutely heartbreaking.
Young Ian mourns the loss of his faithful best friend. There is a sense that the death happens when Rollo believes that Young Ian is ready to lose him. Young Ian has Rachel, and it’s almost like Rollo senses that his best friend has someone to spend the rest of his life with. In Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone there is a beautiful moment for Young Ian and a new pup, and if Rollo does die in the show, I hope that we see this moment to make the loss a little easier to deal with.
