It’s Super Bowl Sunday, and that means a lot of football. While some will tune in for the commercials and the Halftime Show, for many people, Super Bowl LX is just something they’re not interested in. Nor do you have to be! There are some great period dramas to watch instead.
We’ve got five to get started with. There are plenty of episodes to work through, not just giving you something to watch during Super Bowl LX, but also for the rest of the Winter Olympics and just to find something in general to watch. There are certainly shows on this list that you likely already watch (and now is a great chance to watch again) but there are others that you may have overlooked.
Outlander
Look, you’re at a site that is named for the main characters in this TV series. Of course, you’ve watched Outlander a million times! Well, now is a great time to watch it again. Not only does it get you away from the football, but it also gets you ready for the final season.
Outlander season 8 premieres in less than a month — Friday, March 6! So, this is the time to rewatch the episodes and see just how far Claire and Jamie have come since Claire fell through the stones for the very first time. There may be connections back to past seasons as well, so you’ll be ready to see them all when the new season arrives.
Outlander is available to stream on Netflix and STARZ.

Miss Scarlet
For six seasons now, Eliza Scarlet has shown us just how wonderful women can be. With a new episode of Miss Scarlet airing tonight, you will want to spend some time catching up on the series. Maybe it’ll even turn into a new period drama worth watching.
The series was originally titled Miss Scarlet and the Duke, as there was another titular character. The Duke left after four seasons, bringing in Inspector Alexander Blake, who is now the love interest for Eliza. The series gives us a look at the world of the late 1800s, especially when it comes to crime and detective agencies.
Miss Scarlet is available to stream on PBS Masterpiece.
Medici
How about a trip a bit further into the past? Medici is set in early 15th century Florance, a family of bankers for the Pope. When Cosimo de Medici’s father dies, he ends up in charge of the banking dynasty. Of course, there’s more to this dynasty than just helping to control the funds.
Now Cosimo has a chance to rise in power in medieval Italy. However, their contributions to the country’s artistic lifestyle goes against the quest for control, and there are plenty of enemies who want to point that out and cause problems.
Medici is available to stream on Netflix.
The Buccaneers
If you want something that has a bit more of a modern feel to it, then The Buccaneers is the place to turn. The series follows a group of American young women who find themselves on the search for love and happiness. That takes them across the waters to England, where they find that they are looked down, but can they prove that they are worthy of the titles that they end up with?
There is also a love triangle thrown in for good measure. Nan is set to marry a duke, but she is in love with another, but will she follow duty or honor? What happens when her sister finds herself embroiled in a situation that may require the duke’s mother to help get her out of?
The Buccaneers is available to stream on Apple TV.

Ponies
Not everything is about romance. Sometimes, period dramas offer us a look at female friendships and spy work, and that’s certainly the case with Ponies. It’s a must-watch for those who adore spy dramas set in the Cold War period.
When two wives of CIA agents find out their husbands have died while on missions, they find themselves a little lost. They need to find out what happened to their husbands, and so, they decide to head to the CIA with an idea: what if they go undercover to get answers?
Ponies is available to stream on Peacock.
