The first portraits of Outlander season 8 are out, and they mostly focus on the couples. That includes one couple that hasn’t been spotted for a whole season.
Of course, we’re talking about Marsali and Fergus Fraser. The two were in the beginning of Outlander season 6, and then they moved away from Fraser’s Ridge, and they weren’t part of season 7 at all. The good news is they are officially back for the final season.
Marsali and Fergus get to say goodbye on Outlander season 8
We did know that Marsali and Fergus would be back, but that was something announced quite some time ago. With so much happening since then, it’s easy to forget, so to get the portraits and to see Fergus and Marsali together in one was a helpful and exciting reminder.
The fact that the two have a portrait makes it clear that they will get a relatively big part in the final season of Outlander. They’ve been part of the show since season 3 (well, Fergus since season 2 as a younger version), and they have been with the Frasers through thick and thin. At first, Marsali hated Claire due to the opinions of Laoghaire, but she soon realized that Claire was nothing like the woman Laoghaire had described to her, and Claire became a mother to her just like she did with Fergus.
Now the two will get to say goodbye. It’s still unclear how Outlander could come to an end, but we hope for some happiness for the two of them.
There could be devastation for Marsali and Fergus
However, there is the risk of some bad news for the two. As we’ve mentioned before at claireandjamie.com, we’re expecting a devastating storyline from the books, and the teaser certainly hints that it is coming. It involves Marsali and Fergus, as it is all about their sons, Germain and Henri-Christian.
When there’s a fire at their print shop, Germain gets himself and Henri-Christian to the roof. Henri-Christian jumps into the waiting arms of men below, but they all miss him, and it’s a devastating moment for everyone, including young Germain, who blames himself.
With all the heartache they’ve gone through already and Fergus’s fears for Henri-Christian considering he is a dwarf, it’s hard to imagine that they should go through more, especially as the season comes to an end. Can the two handle this loss? It’s something for Outlander season 8 to potentially answer.
