If you think you know how Outlander season 8 will end, then you’re sadly mistaken. Even the actors don’t seem to know how the ending will go, and that’s due to some smart action taken by the producers.

Sure enough, there were some leaks not that long ago. They give us an idea of the characters we’ll see and some of the storylines from Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone that will come up, but they didn’t give the ending away. There’s been nothing to tell us exactly where we’ll find our favorite characters, and it’s not even like there’s a 10th book out yet to help us, either.

Outlander season 8 shot multiple endings

Sophie Skelton talked with TV Insider about the final season. While it is certainly sad, there’s also a sense of achievement and happiness around it. So many TV shows are abruptly canceled, but STARZ didn’t do that to Outlander. While there were fears that season 7 would be the last, the network decided that it was right to close out with an eighth and final season.

However, Skelton has no idea how it will all come to an end. Not really, anyway. She shared that they filmed multiple endings as a way to avoid the spoilers.

This was likely the best way to do it. After all, we saw the leaks, and for some people, those leaks ruin the experience. Now there’s the knowledge that those leaks may have been part of a faked ending to help avoid spoiling the fun.

Outlander has been plagued with leaks in the past

There’s no doubt that this series has been plagued with spoilers and leaks in the past. During Outlander season 4, fans learned that Tobias Menzies would be part of the story in some sort of way due to him being spotted while filming.

One of the downsides of on-location shoots is that people tend to be around. It allows them to get photos and videos of production, and even though there’s no context to the scenes, it can lead to some spoilers, especially for those who know the books well.

By filming multiple endings, it avoids Outlander season 8 from being ruined. People think they know what will happen and they think they have leaks from the set, but really, they could have a red herring. We can go into the season just to enjoy it, waiting to see how the TV show’s version of the story will come to a close.

Outlander season 8 premieres on Friday, March 6 on STARZ.
