While the Outlander season 7 finale brought some devastation, it also brought us hope for the Murray family. Just as we lost a dear member of the family, Rachel shared that she is pregnant.

Of course, pregnancy in this time period is risky. There is never a guarantee — even in today’s world — that the pregnancy would go to term. And if you haven’t read the books, you may be worried considering this series has been known to bring heartbreak.

In fact, there is a heartbreaking death we’re expecting in Outlander season 8, as we keep warning you at claireandjamie.com. In some good news, it does look like there’s a joyous addition to the Murray family.

Outlander season 8 behind-the-scenes photos tease pregnancy

On Sunday, Dec. 21, the 12 Days of Christmas continued on the Outlander social channels. We got some behind-the-scenes photos of the final season, and that brought plenty of looks at different characters. While Brianna on a horse and and Roger and Jamie looking past the cameras are certainly some of the first images you’ll see, there is one that makes it clear Rachel is glowing in her pregnancy.

Just look at the fifth image on the Facebook post below. We get to see Rachel and Young Ian together, and it’s clear that Rachel is heavily pregnant. This is a joyful moment in the series, especially as all women in this time period fear the worst when it comes to this stage of life.

Rachel does give birth in the Outlander books

Rachel does have a baby in the Outlander books. In fact, it’s at the end of Written in My Own Heart’s Blood, with the name of the baby never fully confirmed. For the longest time, this baby is known as Oggy, and that’s what Rachel refers to him during pregnancy.

It’s only in Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone that this infant finally gets an official name. Who happens to give that name? Well, the honor goes to Emily, Young Ian’s Mohawk wife. There’s so much to break down to explain this, so I do believe you’re best reading the Outlander books to understand it all.

He gets the name Hunter, and yes, that’s Rachel’s maiden name. Emily has no idea about this at the time of giving Oggy the name, and that’s what makes it all the more poignant. I don’t quite think we’ll get to see all this play out in Outlander season 8 due to time, but it is a beautiful moment for the whole family.

Outlander season 8 premieres on Friday, March 6 on STARZ.
