Outlander Season 7B trailer makes it clear why Claire goes back to America

The Outlander season 7B trailer is here, and it gives us a few details of things to come. One of those is why Jamie and Claire are separated for a while.

We could tell from the images that Claire would head back to America. To be honest, it’s clear from images that both will, but we knew that Claire would go back before Jamie. Now we have the exact reason why, and it is different from the books.

We won’t get into the book storyline in this post. Just know that Claire going back to America is linked to Laoghaire and not Lord John Grey. However, she does end up going through what we see in the trailer.

Lord John Grey requests Claire’s help in Outlander season 7B

While in Scotland, Lord John Grey writes to Claire and Jamie. His nephew has been injured in battle, and he needs Claire’s help. I adore that it’s Claire he thinks of. Sure, she’s in another country and it will take months for her to get back—his nephew could be dead by the time she gets back—but he trusts Claire to treat his nephew.

Lord John and Claire have come a long way since they first met in Outlander season 3. There was a jealousy between them due to their individual connections to Jamie. However, when John contracted measles and Claire had to treat him, the two got to know each other better. John saw just how skilled Claire was as a surgeon, and so, he started to trust her more.

Then there’s the relationship John has with Brianna. Claire seeing this will have warmed her heart as well. How could you not like someone who protects your daughter and treats her so well, going as far as a fake engagement while the father of her child is saved and returned?

So, John writes to ask Claire to return. Jamie can’t leave Scotland for some reason—yes, book readers, you know, but let’s not spoil it for the non-book fans. So, Claire has to go back alone, and it’s clear that John just knew that Claire would come back to save his nephew, and now we know who she is treating in that photo.
