Outlander has certainly become an ensemble cast. It means there’s a lot going on in Outlander Season 7B, and Lord John Grey is one of the characters to look out for.
Lord John Grey has been more of a side character up to this point, only popping in for an episode here and there each season. However, he gets some bigger storylines in An Echo in the Bone and Written in My Own Heart’s Blood, and it looks like some of those storylines will play out in the season.
Of course, that means we’re digging into the book storylines, so there will be book spoilers. Not all of the book storylines will be used—there just isn’t the time—but let’s look at what could happen to Lord John Grey.
Lord John Grey gets married in Outlander Season 7B
We’re sure to see a marriage happen in Outlander Season 7B. Lord John Grey gets married, and not just to any woman. He’s going to marry Claire Fraser!
Wait, Claire is in Scotland with Jamie right now. Well, Claire heads back to America without Jamie—he follows. While she’s in Philadelphia, she reconnects with Lord John Grey as she needs to help treat his nephew with surgery. While doing that, Jamie gets ready to come back to America and the ship he is supposed to be on sinks.
John and Claire both believe that Jamie has been killed at sea. On top of that, Captain Richardson threatens to have Claire arrested as a spy. John marries Claire to protect her, and the two do end up consummating their marriage. They both think of Jamie while doing it.
Lord John Grey and Jamie Fraser end their friendship in Outlander
Well, Jamie isn’t dead. When he returns to find his wife married to Lord John Grey, he is angry. He’d probably just be a little angry but understanding if it wasn’t for the fact that Lord John Grey slept with his wife while thinking of him. It’s a lot for Jamie to take in, and he ends up beating Lord John Grey to a pulp.
There are signs that this storyline will take place. We see a shot of Lord John Grey with an eye patch in the teaser for Outlander Season 7B.
It’s an end to their friendship. For now.
Lord John Grey sees a man from his past in Outlander Season 7B
With all this going on, it’s easy to overlook the Percy Beauchamp storyline. I don’t think this storyline is going to play out due to time constraints, but it is one worth mentioning. Percy is an old friend of John’s, and he is in America looking for Fergus. It turns out that Fergus may or may not be the son of Comte St. Germain, and that means an heir to a fortune.
John doesn’t want to help Percy, so Percy goes to find Fergus on his own. However, it leads to Percy getting captured by Captain Richardson. This is a storyline that takes place in the ninth book, and some of this storyline is sure to happen but it’s not clear what the full circumstances will be. We’re not going into this, though, as it will be an Outlander Season 8 storyline. There’s a way to deal with Captain Richardson’s story without including Percy.
William learns the truth about Jamie in Outlander
As well as Jamie and John falling out, William and John fall out. William learns that Jamie is his biological father, making him question everything. He pushes Lord John Grey out, angry at him for lying to him all these years.
John can just wait for William to come to him. He is a patient man, but we also see just how much John loves William. He has become William’s father, even if it is just in name. We can expect to see some of this storyline play out in Outlander Season 7B. There’s no way around William learning the truth and the aftermath of that.
Outlander Season 7B premieres on Friday, Nov. 22 on Starz.
