One of the elements that makes Outlander so special is the fact that it involves time travel. However, it looks like Outlander: Blood of My Blood will avoid that aspect of the universe.
So far, there’s been no mentioned of time traveling characters. Sure, we know that at least one of Claire’s parents needs to be able to time travel, but there hasn’t been a sign in the teaser to indicate that will happen. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, though.

Outlander: Blood of My Blood is focused on the love stories
The main focus of Outlander is the love story of Jamie and Claire. This was only made possible because of Claire’s ability to travel through time, but it’s not that she’s out of her time that becomes a major focus of the show. Okay, sure, she knows things that people of the time wouldn’t, but the heart of the series is the love that Claire and Jamie share.
That’s something that continues in Outlander: Blood of My Blood. We’ll get two love stories: that of Ellen and Brian and that of Julia and Henry. This gives us a look at a few quirks and personalities that have made Jamie and Claire who they are.
We already know a little bit of Ellen and Brian’s story, but now it’s time to see it play out. As for Julia and Henry, we know basically nothing because Diana Gabaldon hasn’t told us anything. Well, now it’s time to see how the met, how they fell in love, and what happened to lead to their deaths (eventually).

Could Julia time travel in Outlander: Blood of My Blood?
There have been some fans questioning whether time travel is part of the series. As soon as the teaser dropped, I do remember seeing conversations that Julia is the one who can time travel. Fans were sure they spotted something in the clothing, and maybe they did. However, there are no hints that a time traveling character will be included.
Part of that sticks with the canon of the Outlander story, though. Gabaldon has always said that while one of Claire’s parents could time travel, it doesn’t necessarily mean that they did. She is adamant that the two died in a car accident, and that there isn’t some other conspiracy in there. That doesn’t mean Outlander: Blood of My Blood will take the story, but with how irate book-first fans get about changes, many should be happy with the idea of no time traveling characters in the Outlander prequel.
Outlander: Blood of My Blood premieres on Friday, Aug. 8 on STARZ.
