Outlander: Blood of My Blood will likely include the Jacobites (but not from Jamie's time)

There were two Jacobite rebellions in Scotland, and Outlander: Blood of My Blood will likely include one of them.

There’s very little that we know of Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 1. There’s a little more than a month to go (tomorrow marks the month left), and we have the basic teases of two love stories and the titles of the episodes.

The titles can often tell us a lot more than we would originally think. The penultimate episode is titled “Braemar,” and it likely connects to the Jacobites. Yes, there are sure to be Jacobites in this story, although not the ones we’ve already come to know and love.

Outlander: Blood of My Blood is set during the First Jacobite Rebellion

We know that Outlander: Blood of My Blood is set around 1715. That’s when the Gathering at Leoch took place, giving Ellen and Brian a chance to run away. That’s where their love story really began in Jamie’s stories, but there was surely a buildup to the two of them deciding they were going to run away.

This year is also an important one in Scottish history. It’s when the First Jacobite Rebellion began, and this is where the title “Braemar” comes in. Braemar was where the first rebellion began, when the Standard of James VIII was raised on Sept. 6, 1715, as that was where the Earl of Mar lived.

We’ll potentially see a gathering at Braemar as this decision was made. We could also see how the MacKenzies may have been on the side of the rebellion, especially Dougal, who would later be on that side in Outlander. We know Colum didn’t want to support the Jacobites, and maybe this first event is why.

Simon Fraser could play a large part in this Outlander prequel story

Someone that we can’t overlook when it comes to the Jacobite rebellion is Simon Fraser. This was a man who focused on playing the game for his own gain, and he was happy to be a Jacobite and then betray the Jacobites when it worked in his favor.

However, he was a Jacobite in 1703, and he only returned to Scotland in 1715. So, for Braemar, he should be on the British side, and we’d see how he focused on keeping himself out of trouble.

One thing to keep note of is that The Old Fox wasn’t Lord Lovat in 1715. He didn’t hold the title until 1733, and hopefully, Outlander: Blood of My Blood has remembered that. There would need to be a quick comment about him wanting his title back, even though we wouldn’t see it considering it happens almost 30 years later.

Outlander: Blood of My Blood premieres on Friday, Aug. 8 on STARZ.
