Sunday nights have been all about historical fiction on PBS, and Marie Antoinette has been ending our nights in French luxury style. Well, with the way the previous episode ended, there is no doubt that we're ready for more to the story.
This is where we have some bad news. There will not be an episode of Marie Antoinette tonight, Sunday, May 18. There isn't a rerun, either, as Miss Austen takes up two hours as it completes its series tonight.
Why isn't a new episode of Marie Antoinette on tonight?
The lack of new episode is simply due to the previous episode being the season finale. Yes, Marie Antoinette season 2 has come to an end, and what a cliffhanger to end it with! The country is falling apart, and it's clear that there's little the Royal Family can do to save themselves.
In fact, many members of the Royal Family seem to be just accepting the fall. Louis was left despondent, while Provence made it clear that it's Louis's problem now. Antoinette has nothing to fight for as she can just watch as the people of France knock down the gates to Versailles.

When will Marie Antoinette return with new episodes?
There is a bit of bad news that comes with all of this. Marie Antoinette has not yet been renewed for a third season, and it's not PBS that can renew it. Eyes are on the French network Canal+, as this is the network that originally created the show, with PBS licensing it.
From there, PBS will need to decide whether to license the season if it does happen. It does look like this series was set to be a three-season show, and we are nearing the end of Antoinette and Louis's tale. So, with some hope we'll get new episodes.
Marie Antoinette is available to stream on PBS Masterpiece.
