We've closed another chapter on Marie Antoinette's life with the end of Marie Antoinette season 2. Now eyes are on whether there is more to come.

It's clear that the story of Antoinette and Louis isn't over. Without spoilers for the Marie Antoinettte season 2 finale, they're not dead yet. Look, we know executions have to come soon! The two have lost the respect and love of the people, although it's not completely their fault. It's hard to go against people like Provence and Chartres who will do everything they can to gain power.

So, now we wait for Marie Antoinette season 3. The big question is whether this is going to happen.

Marie Antoinette season 3 isn't confirmed yet

There is some mixed news, as Marie Antoinette season 3 isn't yet confirmed. However, there are some reports out there that suggest the series was planned as a three-season story. With the way the second season ended, it certainly suggests that there is one more season to come.

Now it's whether PBS will bring us that season. It's a little harder for PBS to do this, as the series doesn't original from the public broadcaster. It's a French series, originally airing on Canal+, and it's distributed via various companies around the world. If Canal+ decides not to renew the show, then there isn't anything for PBS to pick up.

Marie Antoinette deserves to end with the end

Let's be honest, though; we need to see the end. History tells us that Antoinette faced her execution with bravery, and that's something that we need to see considering the way Antoinette has dealt with blow after blow from the French people and Parliament.

It's hard to imagine that this story won't be finished, especially if there is just one more season to it. The problem is that period dramas cost so much for costumes, CGI, and more, and that can end up leading to cancellation of shows before anyone is ready.

Roxane Duran did spark rumors that Marie Antoinette season 2 would be the last, but the finale answered a lot of questions about what she meant by her Instagram post. There is no official decision just yet.
