The first two episodes of Blood of My Blood put Claire’s parents in the past, but separated them by clan and situation. Meanwhile, Clan MacKenzie is struggling with a fight for power, and Ellen MacKenzie is starting to suffer personally because of it.

Murtagh and Brian are not happy about Ellen’s news
While Clan MacKenzie and Clan Grant are excited about their families combining once more, Brian and Murtagh are not. Murtagh tells Brian that Ellen is to be married to Malcolm Grant, and it’s clear from Brian’s face that he hadn’t heard of this news. That’s not surprising considering he stays away from people as much as possible.
What will Brian do to make sure the marriage doesn’t go ahead? How will he get the love of his life? He’s going to have to act fast if he wants Ellen in his life.
Julia’s pregnancy is sure to come out in Blood of My Blood
Davina asks Julia if she has “anything to confess,” and it’s clear that this is sure to be linked to her pregnancy. We know that Julia is pregnant with her and Henry’s second child, but she hasn’t told anyone yet. That’s not surprising considering she’s literally being held hostage.
I am curious about why Davina puts it as “anything to confess.” Is this because she thinks Julia isn’t really married? Is it because she thinks Julia has ended up sleeping with Simon Fraser, since he clearly keeps going after her? Can Davina be trusted?
Henry gets help in his search for Julia
Henry isn’t going to stop looking for his wife, and he is turning to someone he likely didn’t think of himself. After all, Ned Gowan is also there. They are both in a brothel, and Henry is turning to the madam for help.
I love that he’s not making it unknown to anyone that he’s looking for Julia. I do wonder how the Grants will react when he finds her. Will Julia be allowed to go to the Grants, or will there be a fight on their hands with the Frasers?
The MacKenzie brothers are working against each other in Blood of My Blood
We know that both Dougal and Colum want to be laird. It’s not that surprising then to see that they’re working against each other. As Colum sets up the marriage between Ellen and Malcolm, Dougal offers a hint that he’ll rescind that offer.
Of course, Dougal likely has his own plans up his sleeves. He needs to form bonds with someone, and the best way to do that is through the promise of marriage. There are plenty of people out there interested in Ellen, and she is becoming a pawn on the chessboard for the two brothers.
Ellen shows just how smart she is
Ellen isn’t going to take any of this lying down. She’s not just going to accept the fate her brothers have in store for her, but she needs to be smart about it. As she stands with Glenna, she makes it clear “there are still moves to be made.”
Ellen is now thinking of life with the MacKenzie as a chessboard. Will she end up going up against her brothers as well, or will she make some decisions that lead her to Brian instead of Malcolm? She wants what is best for her family, so she’s sure to take action that will help Colum and Dougal, right?
