Lauren Lyle is back as the titular cop in Karen Pirie season 2. It’s time for another cold case, that she’s sure to get her teeth stuck into.
It’s certainly been a long wait for the new episodes. Karen Pirie was first released in 2022, and while it didn’t take too long to get a renewal, it feels like we’ve waited forever for the show to come back. Well, now we have a release date and some details on what to expect in the next set of episodes.

Karen Pirie season 2 will premiere in October 2025
The new episodes will drop on BritBox in October 2025. There isn’t a set release date just yet, which is pretty standard for streaming services. We’ll likely get a premiere date in the coming months.
In some disappointing news, there will only be three episodes, which does match the first season. Each of the episodes are two hours long, so it’s more like three mini-movies or six episodes to tell the full tale. British dramas tend to be shorter, helping to keep the focus on the main storyline and manage filming schedules better.
Karen Pirie season 2 has just started airing in the UK on ITV. It premiered on Sunday, July 20, and it will run for three weeks on the channel, with it being available on ITV+ for streaming.
It’s unclear if BritBox will opt for a weekly release or a binge-watch release for the second season. Either way, we’re ready for it!

What to expect in Karen Pirie season 2
The new season will see Karen on the hunt for the murderers involved in a 1984 cold case. Catriona and Adam Grant were brutally kidnapped by gunpoint outside a Fife fish and chip shop. Despite ransom notes, the young oil fortune heiress and her two-year-old son were never found, and the culprits fell silent.
Now a man’s body has been discovered, and there are links to this old case. Karen realizes that she needs to figure out what happened, putting together her unbeatable team once more. What exactly did happen in 1984?
Karen Pirie season 2 will premiere in October 2025 on BritBox in the United States and Canada.
