There were certainly plenty of twists and turns throughout the Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 1 finale, with a change to the canon something we didn’t expect. However, one storyline that left us on the edge was Julia and Henry’s.
The two were at Craigh na Dun in the final moments, debating whether William can travel through time. Julia wanted Henry to go through with William, since she would be safer in the past thanks to her marriage to Simon Fraser. However, Henry wasn’t risking anything, and he pushed Julia and William toward the stones.
However, it’s clear that none of them can go back to their own time, but it’s not the reason you’re thinking of. It has nothing to do with Claire believing her parents to be dead.

It would put the couples in two different timelines in Outlander: Blood of My Blood
Something that has been fun has been watching how Julia and Henry have had to navigate the past. Julia has found herself as a servant and then as the wife of Simon Fraser, while Henry quickly landed the job as the Grants’ bladier, which is something we've looked into as a job at claireandjamie.com.

The two have managed to intersect with characters that we know, with Julia doing the most intersecting through Brian and Ellen. If Julia and Henry (or just one of them) ended up back in their own time, it would mean no more of these two timelines combining as one.
Suddenly, the two storylines will be completely separate, and that won’t work too well for the show. It’s been useful having the flashbacks of Julia and Henry, showing how their love developed, but we’ve always come back to them being in the 1700s interacting with Brian, Ellen, Ned, and many more. That would need to continue in Outlander: Blood of My Blood.

It would prevent the drama from continuing
It’s not just about the couples interacting, either. Julia and Henry need to stay in the past to continue the storylines that have already been developed. If they leave 1715, they leave Arch Bug, Simon Fraser, and many others behind.
TV simply can’t do that. It would be different if this was the end of the series, offering some sort of happily ever after for the characters, but it’s not. The drama has to continue, and as viewers, we need some sort of continuation and closure of the various storylines that have developed already.

It makes for a far more dramatic story to have Arch get to Henry and attempt to kill him. It makes for a far more dramatic story for Simon Fraser to get Julia and William back and keep them locked up in Castle Leathers to “protect” them. We get back to the arc of Henry and Julia trying to get back to each other, which immediately adds something for us to root for throughout the whole series.
So, even if we didn’t know that Claire believes her parents to be dead, Julia and Henry simply can’t go back to their own time in Outlander: Blood of My Blood. There’s no compelling story in that.
