It’s not easy for a woman in the 1700s. Julia Beauchamp doesn’t have any rights in Blood of My Blood season 1, episode 3, and now she’s learning that the life of her unborn child is at risk.

Julia has understandably kept the pregnancy a secret up to this point. She won’t even let Davina Porter know, knowing that this could lead to some serious complications in the prison that she has found herself in. However, she’s smart and resourceful, and she is willing to do whatever it takes to survive, and I don’t blame her one bit.

Julia learns there’s a way to save her child

After Davina shows Julia what to take to terminate her pregnancy, Julia starts to ask questions. After all, Davina isn’t married, and she knows that Brian is her son. It’s clear that Simon Fraser will allow his maid to have a child out of wedlock remain in the house.

There’s a catch, though. Brian is Simon’s son, and he knows that well and clear. Because of this, Simon wouldn’t get rid of the child, and he wanted to keep Davina close by. He knows that Brian is worth something to him, even being illegitimate.

Julia has realized that there is an option for her to keep herself and her unborn child safe, but she needs to act fast. And fast she acts.

Julia makes an understandable decision in Blood of My Blood

Realizing that she can’t escape the castle, Julia has to make a decision that could change everything. She continues to write to Henry as a way to remain connected to him, and at the end of Blood of My Blood season 1, episode 3, she writes that she hopes he can forgive her.

She’s decided that she needs to sleep with Simon Fraser. This will allow her to pass the child off as his. It’s not like he’s going to care much about learning about timelines, so she’ll be able to claim that this child is his in the way Davina did.

The only person who will know something different is Davina. Will she say something? Probably not, as she’ll understand Julia’s situation, and she may want to keep her safe knowing that Julia didn’t have a choice in where she is. It’s also not like Julia’s pregnancy will affect her position, as Brian is grown and will do what he can to protect his mother.

In the end, Julia is making the right decision for herself. She needs to keep herself safe, but she also needs to keep this baby alive and with her. There is only one option at this time.

If she knew that Henry was in the past with her and at the Grant house, then maybe she would act differently. She'd probably look for a way to get word to the Grants to get Henry to her. However, she believes Henry is in the 1920s with Claire, and that means acting in her best way for survival.
