The Outlander season 8 trailer delivers some devastating news for all fans. Frank Randall has written a book, and it hints that Jamie Fraser is going to die in the Revolutionary War. And yes, everyone is taking this seriously, as it’s clear that Jamie and Claire are worried about this outcome.
However, hold up. Jamie has a book written by Frank. Just how is this possible, and why didn’t he have it before? Well, it all goes back to Brianna and Roger leaving 1980 and where they will go next. The Outlander season 8 teaser makes it clear that they are not going back to their present time.

Brianna brings Frank Randall’s book to the past in the Outlander books
During Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone, we get confirmation that Brianna and Roger head back to the past with their children. Or is it the future? After all, we initially left them in 1739, so I guess it’s the future, but it’s still their past. Time travel is a tricky thing to discuss.
Let’s get back to it. At the end of Written in My Own Heart’s Blood, there’s the hint that the MacKenzies go back to Claire and Jamie’s time, and we get that confirmed in the ninth book. Brianna has a bag full of items that she has brought back from 1980, including Frank Randall’s last-ever historical book. It was published after his death, and after Claire had gone through the stones.
Frank knew where Jamie would end up. He knew that the Revolutionary War would reach North Carolina and that Jamie would end up part of it. Brianna naturally read the book — partly because it was her dad’s work, and partly because it was about the Revolutionary War. With her learning the truth, she had to take the book to the past to help Jamie and Claire beat the odds and change this fate.

Jamie wants to know what is to come on Outlander
It looks like all of this is going to play out on Outlander season 8. Now there are times when people in the past don’t want to know the future. They believe that the future is set in stone and that they can’t change even their own fate. Jamie is not that man.
He has asked Claire about the future before, and he has tried to change the way history plays out. Even if history doesn’t change, he continues to try. So, it’s not surprising that he has decided to read the book by Frank Randall to find out more about the Revolutionary War. There is hope that he can change this outcome by knowing it.
Outlander season 8 premieres on Friday, March 6 on STARZ.
