A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 1 episode 3 dropped a huge bombshell. Egg is a Targaryen prince. Now, eyes are on how he connects to the rest of the Targaryens in the Game of Thrones universe.
Egg’s nickname is short for Aegon Targaryen. That is a popular name in the Game of Thrones universe, with four Aegons ruling Westeros before him. Yes, he will become a king as the prophecy shares, but that’s not the point of this post. Is he related to Rhaenyra Targaryen?

Egg is directly related to Rhaenyra Targaryen on House of the Dragon
When it comes to House of the Dragon, we’re watching two sides of the Targaryen family fight for the Iron Throne. This is what effectively ends all the dragons living in Westeros, and eventually, the war will be a moot point. After all, the two sides of the family end up combining! It gets messy, but basically, the two families marry together, and Aegon III is able to bring peace.
Viserys continues that peace, although there is a threat due to his wife’s family. There were also some against Viserys taking the throne, but he ended up ruling and then his son, Aegon IV, ruled after him.
Aegon VI led to Daeron II, who is the king in Westeros during A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. We don’t get to see him on the show (yet, at the very least) and he is only mentioned in the books. From here, though, we can see how the line continues, as Daeron’s son, Maekar is the father of Egg.

Egg is also directly connected to Daenerys Targaryen on Game of Thrones
That’s not the only Targaryen connection. From here, Aegon will lead to Daenerys, as he is her great-grandfather. Aegon will father Jaehaerys II, who will father Aerys II (also known as The Mad King). From there, we know where it leads, as he fathers Rhaegar, Viserys, and Daenerys.
We also know that one of Egg’s siblings turns up on Game of Thrones. Maester Aemon is Aegon’s older brother, who has been mentioned as training to be a maester right now on A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
Oh, there’s an even bigger connection in the Game of Thrones universe. Remember that we learn Jon Snow is actually the legitimate King of the Iron Throne. He is the son of Rhaegar and Lyanna, and his actual name is Aegon. However, Ned protected his identity to protect his life. So yes, Egg is the great-great-grandfather of Jon Snow.
Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon, and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms are all available to stream on HBO Max.
