Before Outlander: Blood of My Blood got started, we knew that we would meet a younger Mrs. Fitz. However, there are questions about the timeline now that we’re into the series, and one of those questions involves the children.

Glenna Fitzgibbons is married in Outlander: Blood of My Blood, but we don’t know anything about her just yet. There is no mention of children, but she should have them by now.

And sure, the TV prequel isn’t connected to the books, but it is connected to the TV show Outlander. That means there has to be elements of canon that match up. This is one of them.

Laoghaire MacKenzie will be born soon in Outlander: Blood of My Blood

In Outlander season 1, we learn that Laoghaire is 16 when Jamie takes the beating for her. With the year being 1743, it means that she was born in 1727. That’s in around 12 years by the end of Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 1.

Now, even considering the time period of women marrying young, the timeline can’t work if Glenna doesn’t have any children just yet. It would mean Glenna has to give birth soon to have a daughter old enough to even consider being able to get pregnant. And back then, they married young, but there was an understanding that there was such a thing as too young to carry children.

She could have a son, and that would change that considerably. However, with Laoghaire carrying the surname MacKenzie, it would likely mean that it’s Glenna’s daughter who is Laoghaire’s mother, and not a son who is her father. Glenna’s daughter would take the name MacKenzie when marrying; otherwise, Glenna should have the name MacKenzie.

Glenna has to have children right now, so where are they?

This would mean that Glenna must have children in Outlander: Blood of My Blood. They haven’t been mentioned at all, which is odd. It’s not like there aren’t children running around, as we’ve seen a younger Angus and Rupert running around Castle Leoch.

So, Glenna’s children have to be somewhere. Or it’s a plot hole that the show hasn’t thought of, and I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the case.

To be honest, a lot of fans tend to know and remember more than the creators. Even Diana Gabaldon has gotten things wrong in her books, showing that even the creatives don’t get it all right. If we can let Gabaldon get away with it, then we should be able to let Matt B. Roberts and his team get away with it, right? Let’s not have a double standard.

Maybe this is something for the series to think about in season 2. After all, season 1 was about introducing the characters and the main plot points. Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 2 allows for more depth into various characters and their families.
