There’s no doubt that we’re looking for any clues for what to expect in Outlander season 8. The key art is often a great place to start, and the latest poster gives us a notable element.
The landscape posters don’t have this as clear as the portrait ones, but you can see the Craigh na Dun standing stones upside down behind Claire and Jamie. The visual artwork tends to have some sort of hidden meaning, and we’re curious about what the upside-down standing stones could mean.
Is the world turning upside down in Outlander season 8?
Okay, so, now I have the Hamilton song stuck in my head, and it was actually due to the song that I saw a connection. Claire and Jamie are currently going through the Revolutionary War. The throwing of the tea into the Boston Harbor has happened, and now war is coming across the country. People have to choose a side, with the Frasers firmly on the side of independence from Britain, knowing how everything plays out in the future.

This could be what the standing stones represent in the promotional key art. It could be a sign that the world is turning upside down, with America becoming an independent nation before the end of the series.
If you’ve read Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone, you’ll know that there’s a major event coming for those on Fraser’s Ridge, which could also link to the world turning upside down for the Frasers. Jamie will take his men to fight at the Battle of Kings Mountain. I don’t want to share any spoilers for those who haven’t read the book, but it does include a moment of loss and fear.
A shift from the infinity symbol
The key art now that the Outlander season 8 premiere has been announced isn’t the first time the stones have been used in a promotional poster for this season. When the initial teaser was released, it came with a poster that had the standing stones in the shape of an eight.

While this could have been for “season 8,” the eight shape is also an infinity symbol turned on its side. This would mark that Jamie and Claire’s love is forever, and that’s certainly felt in the newer key art. After all, the key art says “Past. Present. Forever.”
With the standing stones being the reason Claire and Jamie found each other, it makes sense that it goes back to the stones when marketing the series. It could also be a hint that it all goes back to there. After all, where did the forget-me-nots come from to get Claire to go back to those stones?
Outlander season 8 premieres on Friday, March 6 on STARZ.
