The end is nigh. We now have a release year for Outlander season 8, and it’s just when we expected.
Yes, there was some hope that Outlander season 8 would premiere in 2025. In fact, it seemed like STARZ could offer back-to-back Outlander at the end of this year. That’s not the case, though, and just as we expected, the final season of the epic drama will come in 2026.
Outlander season 8 gets a teaser release
During the panel for Outlander’s lookback over the years at SDCC 2025, a teaser trailer for Outlander season 8 was released. It starts with clips of the past, with Claire going through the stones and meeting Jamie, with her telling Jamie that she’s from the future, and with Jamie telling Claire that if his last words aren’t ‘I love you’ it’s because he didn’t have time.
The teaser then offers a couple of clips from the upcoming final season, and it’s clear that Roger and Bree are going to join them in the 1770s again. The last we saw of them was in 1739 when Brianna went back in time with Jem and Mandy to find Roger and Buck.
Jamie is reading the last book that Frank Randall wrote, and it tells Jamie his fate. The Revolutionary War is coming to the backcountry, and Jamie’s life could end up being on the line. Is he the Jamie Fraser Frank wrote about, or is there another one out there?
Outlander will end in 2026
At the end of the teaser, we learned that the episodes will arrive in “early 2026.” An exact month hasn’t been given yet, but “early” gives us hope that it will be somewhere between January and March.
This show has performed well when dropped around Valentine’s Day, and it would be a beautiful way to end the series. After all, this is about an epic love story, and there are other epic love stories that came about because of Claire and Jamie.
The early 2026 release date also makes sense, and it is something that we predicted. This means that there is something from the universe this year and next. We know that Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 2 is happening, but that likely won’t be released until 2027, so STARZ will want to make sure there is something released next year.
It also means that we don’t have to say goodbye any time soon. There’s a while to enjoy the prequel and then see how the main story ends.
