As much as we would love to see Stuart Martin return as The Duke on Miss Scarlet season 6, we have to face the facts. It’s not happening.
Martin left Miss Scarlet after four seasons, surprising everyone. After all, the title of the series was Miss Scarlet and The Duke, suggesting that both of the titular characters would remain until the end. Is there a series without either of them?
Well, Miss Scarlet season 5 proved that there could be. While not quite as good, we did get to see Eliza focus on growing her business, and there was even the start of a new relationship. But could William decide to return to London and be the one to throw a spanner in the works?

Why did Stuart Martin leave Miss Scarlet?
Don’t expect Martin to return to the series. It wasn’t the show’s decision to see William leave. Martin made the difficult decision, believing that it would be right for the story. And because of that, it doesn’t sound like he is going to return.
Never say “never,” but Eliza has made an effort to move forward in her life. While she misses William, she isn’t pining for him to return. He left her a letter that explained that he understood that London was her home. There were no hard feelings between them, and now Eliza is focused on encouraging the new inspector, Alexander Blake, to contract her for some cases.
What to expect on Miss Scarlet season 6?
So, what can we expect instead? This is where things stay interesting. At the end of Miss Scarlet season 5, Eliza and Blake saw something between them, and Blake even invited Eliza into his home. There was a spark that we hope to see ignited on season 6.
However, there are issues, because they will end up working together. While Blake doesn’t like working with private investigators, he knows that Eliza isn’t in it for the money. She’s in it for all the right reasons, and the money is just a benefit on top of that. However, personal and professional tend to get in the way of budding relationships, and we could see that happen.
There is a returning face, though. Moses Valentine is back on Miss Scarlet season 6, after leaving two seasons ago. That means Clarence will feel like his job is on the line, and he’ll want to prove that he is capable as Eliza’s assistant. However, it doesn’t seem like Moses is back for work, and more to protect himself.
Miss Scarlet season 6 premieres on Sunday, Jan. 11 at 8/7c on PBS.
