There’s a lot of speculation over Outlander: Blood of My Blood. There are also a lot of questions about how the events are going to lead to those in Outlander. In fact, some people feel like there are flaws in the writing.
One of those is how Colum and Dougal in Outlander don’t know the name Beauchamp when Claire comes to Castle Leoch. Well, they know it said as the French way, but not the English way, and it leads to questions about that. However, some viewers are questioning whether there’s now a flaw with Blood of My Blood, as wouldn’t Colum and Dougal know the English version from Henry and Julia Beauchamp?
Julia is currently stuck at Castle Leathers in Blood of My Blood
It makes sense that they don’t know anything about Julia right now. Not only is she stuck at Castle Leathers, but she’s also a servant. Colum and Dougal won’t care too much about the servants in other locations, just as we’ve seen in Outlander: Blood of My Blood.
On top of that, I’m not even sure Julia has shared what her name is with many people. She’s potentially shared it with Simon Fraser and Davina Porter, but Davina probably won’t know how to spell it. As for Simon, he likely hasn’t really cared too much about it.
When Julia met with Ellen, it’s not like it would matter for Claire years later. By the time Claire comes through the stones, Ellen has died. So, Colum and Dougal likely won’t know the name just yet. This could change as time goes on, but right now, there’s no need for Colum or Dougal to pay attention to who Julia is.
Henry is going by the name Grant in the Outlander prequel
Then we have Henry, who has ended up on MacKenzie land. He’s even been to Castle Leoch, and he’s spoken a lot with Ned Gowan. However, the name Beauchamp hasn’t come up.
Henry now goes by the name Grant, as a way to protect himself a little better in the Highlands. There’s no reason for him to use his real name while at Castle Leoch, so Colum and Dougal won’t have heard it yet. After all, Ned will have mentioned the Grants’ bladier, but that will be about it at this point.
So, no, there’s no reason for Colum and Dougal to know the name Beauchamp just yet. So far, Blood of My Blood has stuck with the Outlander canon.
