While Henry Beauchamp was originally introduced in Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 1, episode 1, we didn’t get to know that much about it. However, it’s clear that he will keep things close to his chest when he needs to.

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 1, episode 2.

In the second episode, we get to see his story. We learn how he ended up meeting Julia, traveling to the past, and set up on a journey to find his wife. It’s time to look back at the episode to see his standout moments.

Sticking to his word in World War I

The First World War was horrific for the men on the Front. Trench warfare was nothing they had ever seen before, and we get a glimpse of that in Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 1, episode 2. This actually offers us a look at the type of man Henry Beauchamp is.

He is a man of his word. When he realizes that one of the younger men hasn’t made it back from the top, he rushes out, against all orders, and gets him back. Sure, the young soldier was going to die, but Henry needed to make sure they could return him home to his family, because he had promised that.

Immediately looking out for Julia in Outlander: Blood of My Blood

At the end of the first episode, we learn how Julia ends up going through the stones with Henry. He follows her through the stones. Of course, we know time travelers are drawn to the stones, but he doesn’t even think twice about it. He needs to find his wife.

That’s on his mind as soon as he recovers from the trip through the stones. He needs to figure out where Julia is, and he makes it clear to everyone that he is looking for her. This is a man on a mission, and he is not leaving her behind, showing just how important she is to him.

Noticing the date on the wall

While in the tavern, Henry takes a look around at everything that’s there. He immediately notices the date on one of the broadsheets as 1714. This would make a lot of people question things, but Henry is able to play it cool.

We don’t see too much of a look of shock on his face in Outlander: Blood of My Blood, despite it seeming like Henry is the one Claire gets her glass face from. This could be because he’s focused on figuring out where he is and what’s happened, with the soldier in him taking over. It’s important for a later moment.

Taking in the problems in the land discussion in Outlander: Blood of My Blood

After taking in the date, Henry takes in more of the events happening around him. One of those is a discussion about land and grants, and he makes sure that Malcolm Grant is aware that he’s being played. He doesn’t even have to say that much for Malcolm to instantly trust him.

Of course, others are angry, because they were planning on deceiving the Grants. Malcolm steps in to save Henry’s life, noticing that this is the type of man you want in your corner. And I love that when Henry goes to see Isaac Grant, he agrees that a man of his word is important, harkening back to the start of the episode.

Deciding to trust Ned Gowan

You would think that Henry wouldn’t want to trust too many people in the past, but he’s also probably one of those people who knows how to play a long game if needed. In the coach at the end of the episode, we see Ned Gowan tell Henry that he can help Henry find the woman he’s looking for.

Henry doesn’t give too many details, and Ned doesn’t ask for them. The two start a small friendship, as it’s clear that they each have respect for one another simply due to their positions with the Grants and MacKenzies. There is certainly more of this to come.
