We get to see the beginning of Henry and Julia’s love story in Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 1, episode 2. However, things take a turn when they end up in the past, and Julia ends up kidnapped and sold into slavery.
Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 1, episode 1.
While we get to initially meet Julia Beauchamp in the series premiere, it’s the second episode that gives us a great look at who she and Henry are. Julia is a woman with a powerful mind, determined to do the best she can for herself. It’s time to look back at the episode to pick out the best five moments.

Proving just how valuable she is
When water is spilt on some notes, Julia quickly proves that she is valuable. She is able to remember a lot, and that’s sure to come in handy in the past when she can’t write everything down. It also shows where Claire gets a lot of her brains from in Outlander.
You see, it’s easy to think that Henry’s side of the family has all the smarts, but Julia makes it clear that she wants to go to university. She wants to break the status quo, something that her daughter will want to do in the future.
Being there for Henry when he needs her in Outlander: Blood of My Blood
After World War I, Julia and Henry are able to be together, and they start the lives as one. However, the war isn’t forgotten about, as Henry suffers from PTSD. Julia doesn’t judge her husband for any of this, and instead, holds him and is there for him.
She’s able to find a way to break him from his memories. As she reads out the letters that she once wrote him, he’s able to connect back to his own time and be in the moment with her. It’s a beautiful look at how to help someone suffering from PTSD, and how much they love each other.

Leaving the S.W.A.K. sign
After going through the stones, Julia doesn’t realize what’s happened at first. That’s normal considering she’s just landed in the countryside that looks similar to where she was. So, she leaves S.W.A.K. on a stone and then goes to search for help, believing that Henry has done the same.
This does lead to danger for Julia, but she had no idea that she needed to stay in one place. She had to find someone to help find both her husband and the car that was left behind. What this moment does show, though, is that Julia and Henry had a secret language that is sure to help later on.
An attempt to flee in Outlander: Blood of My Blood
Once she realizes that she’s in the past, Julia needs to figure out a way to get back to her own time. She knows she needs to get back to the stones, and so, she flees from Castle Leathers.
Of course, it doesn’t work out for her. Brian sees her and then the brute that is Simon Fraser’s bodyguard gets to her. She’s ready to take the whipping until Brian steps in. This is her realization that she needs to be smarter when it comes to fleeing this castle.

Writing to Henry Beauchamp
The start of the relationship came about through letters. That was the way they came to know each other, and so, it’s only understandable that she decides to write to Henry in the past. It’s clear, though, that she doesn’t think that Henry is in this time period.
We learn a few things, such as that she’s pregnant right now and that she thinks Henry has made it back to Claire. This is going to lead for an interesting reunion when she learns that Henry is in the past and looking for her. What does it mean for their daughter in the 1920s?
