There is some exciting news about the Game of Thrones prequel shows. Not only has House of the Dragon officially been renewed for season 4, but we also got confirmation of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2 happening.
The renewal for the latter has come before the first season has even premiered. Originally intended for a late 2025 release, the show was moved to January 2026. This had us concerned about the release of subsequent seasons, as most of us expected the renewal to happen, right?
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2 is happening
HBO made the decision to renew both of the Game of Thrones universe shows at the same time. In a way, this wasn’t too surprising. We can’t overlook the power of the Game of Thrones universe still today. The main show is constantly being talked about, whether for good or bad reasons, so it makes sense that there is a lot of attention on the prequel stories.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms follows the story of Dunk and Egg, two unlikely heroes in Westeros and an unexpected duo. It’s set when the Targaryens are still on the Iron Throne, meaning that it’s before Game of Thrones. With dragons still a living memory (but no longer around), it means that it’s set shortly after the House of the Dragon timeline.
A second season will happen, which is great news for those who are already looking forward to the story of Dunk and Egg.
When will A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2 arrive on HBO?
Now for the even more exciting news. With the first season being pushed to January 2026, there were fears that we would have to wait until 2028 for the second season. After all, House of the Dragon is following a two-year timeline, with the fourth season set for a 2028 release.
In some great news, HBO has confirmed that A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2 will arrive a little earlier, set for a release in 2027. A season isn’t mentioned, so it could mean the end of 2027, but hopefully, with the early renewal, the wait can be kept as short as possible. We were looking forward to having a Game of Thrones series each year.
Of course, this release could be moved. As mentioned before, the prequel series was originally slated for a late 2025 release and was then moved to 2026. It all depends on the production process.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 1 will premiere on Sunday, Jan. 18 on HBO.
