Just the Outlander chapter

The chapter starts with Jamie out for a walk looking out for bears. Jenny has followed him, and this is something Jamie notes when he realizes that this path isn’t one she has brought the goats on before. He knows that Jenny needs to talk to him.

The two discuss a few things. Jenny has a pearl rosary, which is something Murtagh bought for Brian to give when Ellen had Willie. Jamie talks about the necklace that Murtagh gave Ellen. The two siblings wonder whether Murtagh is with Brian and Ellen in spirit.

This moves onto the discussion of where Jenny would like to be buried. She knows that nobody knows where she will die, so she doesn’t mind if she’s not buried next to Ian at Lallybroch. She believes she’ll join Ian in spirit.

The two also talk about Murtagh and his last moments. Jamie had told Jenny the story shortly after Culloden in his delirious state. He initially left with Fergus but then returned for Jamie. He went after Black Jack Randall but failed. Jamie held Murgah in his arms as he died. He also recalls Black Jack Randall asking Jamie to kill him, and we find out here that Randall definitely died at Jamie’s hands but not exactly how.

Jenny now shares that she is heading out with Young Ian and Rachel. She gives Jamie the rosary to look after and give to Mandy in the event that something happens to her on the road.
