Just the Outlander chapter

The chapter starts with Roger concerned that the MacNeills aren’t at church. He can’t go out to see them because he’s agreed to ride to Brownsville in the attempt to broker a marriage. He’s trying to smooth things over between the Ridge and Brownsville.

Claire heads out with Bree, Lizzie, and Marsali. They immediately realize there’s a problem. Claire realizes that the entire family is ill with the bloody flux. For now, the reason for the bloody flux isn’t important. They need to get water into each of the people in the cabin.

Marsali takes the baby when it doesn’t drink water. It’s still suckling, and Marsali is the one with breastmilk available. However, it’s too late for the baby and for Mrs. MacNeill. It’s not too late for Mr. MacNeill and his eldest daughter.

It is a heavy chapter. The women all do their best to help the various members of the MacNeill family. Marsali is distraught about not being able to save the baby, and Lizzie prays over everyone as those who succumb to their illnesses die.

There is nothing else that Claire can do for now. She just has to help those who are still alive.
