Just the Outlander chapter

The chapter starts with Young Ian waking up. He is still in pain, but he notes that he can’t be dying. Claire wouldn’t leave him with just Rollo as company if he was dying. I love that he trusts her so much. As soon as Claire returned from the future, Young Ian immediately trusted her and respected her. He wanted to get to know her, and we see that he still has that loyalty now.

He does overhear some voices from in another part of the house. MacDonald is still around and he’s talking to Jamie and Claire. Young Ian overhears a conversation about Jamie becoming an Indian Agent.

Jamie eventually comes into the room Young Ian is staying and suggests that Young Ian heads up to the guest room. MacDonald is staying, so Young Ian refuses. Plus, by this point, Rollo has gone outside and Young Ian wants to stay by the window until Rollo comes back. We just get that confirmation that all is well for Young Ian now. He’s just concussed.

The chapter then moves on to Roger and Brianna. They are on their way to get Jemmy, who is at the McGillivarys. When there, Bree and Roger see a lot of people and there’s a discussion about where Ute’s daughter’s name, Senga, comes from. It turns out that it’s Agnes backward, and that’s a common theme among some Scottish names.

Brianna sees Lizzie while at the house. Lizzie is there to see her fiance, Manfred. However, it’s clear that Lizzie isn’t all that bothered by Manfred being around.

The biggest moment is finding out that Jemmy is drunk. Germaine got Jemmy a drink as well as one for himself. Both of them and a fair few of the men around are drunk. It’s nothing to worry about for the night, though. Brianna does keep Jemmy by her side, but a drunk Roger wants to spend the night with his wife, and he isn’t taking no for an answer.

The ending to this chapter does make me a little annoyed at Roger. Something I keep reminding myself is that he’s a man who has grown up in the 1960s and he currently lives in the 1770s. Of course he is going to push his chances of getting what he wants with his wife while drunk. Brianna tries to stop him and notes that he does usually get her body language and stops, so it’s clearly the alcohol that is doing it. It doesn’t mean I have to like this part of Roger, though.
