Outlander Book Club: The Fiery Cross Chapter 94 breakdown
Foreshadowing in the Outlander chapter
The foreshadowing is certainly in how Tom Christie is going to be trouble. Well, the Christie family is. It’s actually Allan and Malva that cause the biggest problem, although Tom certainly doesn’t help matters. In the end, Tom is the one that ends up saving Claire from imprisonment and potential execution.
The chapter also foreshadows more about the freemasonry. There’s a lot for Roger to still learn about his father-in-law.
I also feel like we get a bit of foreshadowing of Roger stepping out on his own. In this case, he becomes the second in command at Fraser’s Ridge, almost. Jamie isn’t able to handle the situation so it all falls on Roger, and he’s happy to do that duty. But he still needs to find something to do at the Ridge.
Adapting The Fiery Cross chapter
The chapter hasn’t been used just yet. One thing we do know is that the Christies will be introduced in the Outlander Season 6 premiere. It won’t be in the exact same way as in the books, though. After all, Jamie has already recovered from the snake bite.
It’s going to be interesting to see how the Christies are introduced. Will we immediately sense trouble? I guess this is going to depend on whether Jamie is going to be around at the time or it’s just going to be Roger like in the chapter.
I’m also intrigued by whether the mason hello is used in the series. We haven’t gotten into Jamie’s connection to the masons in the series, except for a few symbols used in the sign for the print shop in Edinburgh. Will it continue to be overlooked (which makes sense considering just how much is in the books and how little time there is in the show) or will this be the moment it’s quickly mentioned?
I don’t blame the show for not including the Christies in Outlander Season 5. Some of the Book 6 storylines were pulled forward to allow the sixth season to be a little more focused. Also, it makes sense to leave the casting of major roles for the next season. There was no telling if the actors would be available for the sixth season if cast in the fifth. Just look at how Laura Donnelly and Steven Cree are no longer as available as preferred. Casting specifically for the sixth season made much more sense, and I can’t wait to meet the Christies.
